Overall Rating: 8
Graphics: 5
Gameplay: 10
Ease of use: 10
Fun factor: 8
Graphics: In a game like this, graphics arent essential, yet I must critique this all the same! In the original version
of Myst (let me remind you, about three different "remastered" version came out before realmyst. In this review, I will be
discussing all of them, seeing as how there is little to no differance.) It is a collection of static pictures. Thats all
it is! Picture after picture. The graphics in the pictures are memorable, yet the game uses quicktime for its animations
that stick out like a soar thumb. However, one should not buy Myst due to graphics
Gameplay: Easy! Here its a point somewhere and click, and bam, your all set. There are no keys to remember, None.
Just your mouse. Although sometimes makign it from one side of an age to another can be daunting, even with the zip feature,
it is still easily done. The game has memorable scenes, sound, music, and a thick story line that develops through the Myst
Saga, From Myst, to Riven, to Exile, and two more that follow also following a side trail is Uru.
Ease of use: Again, very simple. Install, and your done, no calibrations, no long load times, and best of all, no
three hour remapping of keys!
Fun factor: Its a puzzle game, so either you love it or hate it. I loved it, the scenes are memorable, espeically
prepared with the sound track of Robyn Miller. Although being a puzzle game you would want the puzzle challenging. The first
time you play, its sort of hard, but after that you remember everything and can beat it in under and hour. The solutions
are relativly hard but not hard enough, and you have an advantage if your new, its static images! If the pointer changes
and you can zoom in on a pannel, you know its important, if you cant get close to it, its not important. The only dissapoitment
was the ending, which was semi-revived in realmyst.
Overall rating: Overall, its an 8. What it lacks in graphics it makes up for in gameplay and ease of use. And although
it is primitive, you can get the first three, all on DVD for twenty bucks (10'th anniversary box set.) It is also extrememyl
memorable, and if you love the game, you will be inspired after playing through Riven, Exile and Uru to buy the books and
get to know the characters.
