The Big Toe

He's coming...Oh God he's coming...

Source:Book

It was a clear day, and mom was cooking some soup. She needed some turnips from the garden across the street however, and her little son, only 10 years old, was more than willing to go get the turnips.

He crossed the street and began to search for the ripe ones, when he came across a strange find, A toe. Sticking out of the ground was a toe, and he figured that this toe would be different to have in the soup, so he cut it from the ground as he heard a distant moaning, and brought it back and threw it in the soup. That night the family at the soup, and it was delicious!

The boy went to bed, snuggled in his sheets. Moments before he went to sleep, he heard a voice from across the street, call out "Wheres my Toe???" the voice moaned. The boy knew what the voice was calling for, but he was safe in his house and had no need to worry. The calling did not stop, as a matter of fact, it got closer to his house. He heard it call from outside his kitchen door. The kitchen door swumg open, and the boy heard the hindges creak. He heard the call again, "Wheres my toeee?" called the voice again.

The boy was worried, the...thing...knew to go into his house. He curled up under his sheets, and hoped that it would go away, when all that happened was it got closer to him. Calling from his stair case, he heard the moan again, "Wheres my toee?" He heard footsteps going to where he was, and outside of his bedroom door, the noises stopped. No more moaning, and no more calling for the toe.

The boy thought it was all a dream, and got up to check. Somewhat confident, he went over to his door, and opened it. Standing in the hall was a tall, dark, lanky figure, who looked the boy dead in his eyes and said "You got it!"

Synopsis:: Good story. I read it as a child, hence why it was scary at the time. If you can not use your imagination and imagine urself as the child, then this story is pointless. There is no surprise, no plot twist, no suspense (besides the small amount of the calling for the toe.) It was in a childs book, however, it was the first horror story I read, so it has meaning. (I did add the part of silence, in the normal version of the story, the monster bursts into the childs room and calls "you got it". In order to make it seem like there will be a plot twist, I added the silence. PLus this draws the character closer to the monster, which if you are visualizing it, adds a few more ounces of fear.
