Old West Side Rifle Range:
Story: Unknown
My Findings: This is not a hugely haunted area, however, at nite it feels as though you are being watched. I think most
of the haunt from this area is brought on by the fact that the rifle range shelter is run down, and in the middle of thick
woods. It is also out of the way from the main West Side area. Visited during the day, its peaceful and silent, during the
nite its just eerie.
FOLLOW UP: Probably not. I dont think its haunted, just as much as it is eerie. It is a fun place to go to, and maybee if
I were doing some CTF it might serve a good base. However, no hauntings to investigate, just a run down building.
Sampsons Pebble:
Story: Ok, I heard this as a kid, yet it might still be true! Two men were hiking the Mid-State trail (which crosses
by sampsons pebble, which is really a large rock that is left over from the melting of the glaciers.) These two men were
tired and it was dark, so they settled camp. One awoke a few hours later, hearing something outside his tent. He went to
investigate. All he saw were little red eyes in the woods, he went to awaken his partner, when all the eyes began running
at him. They were some kind of small rodent, rats perhaps. He climbed a tree nearby, and the rats ate away at the tree (there
is a tree that is eaten away by something that looks like millions of little teeth.) His buddy woke up to hear his friend
screaming and see him beign dragged into the woods. His buddy supposedly reported the story to the police the next morning.
You are supposed to see little red eyes at night, and hear screams.
My Findings: Ive never been up there at nite, however, the story seems VERY shakey. Like I said, I was a kid when it
was told to me. I think someone saw the tree, and since scary stories are intrinsic to society, they decided to make up the
story. You can also not find any articles reguarding the matter. I did go up there once during the day, and did hear something
like a person, stayed still and not a person in site, however, there are ALOT of trails near-by covered by brush, so I wouldnt
rush to say haunted.
FOLLOW UP: With Sampsons pebble, I might follow up, but it is not a priority. Seeing as how im pretty sure the story was
urban legend, I dont think I will see much. And trails being near by, again, there will be alot of movement. Its not a far
hike however, so some night if I am there, I might hike up shortly, camp out for an hour or so.
East Side:
Story: This is the side of camp that has alot more activity. A few years back (1980's I believe) a tornado ripped through
treasure valley, and two boys died there. (you can read about it in the news). ALSO a scout master hung himself there, I
forgot what he got caught for, but I think it had to do with his daughter or wife. He hung himself in a site called "Pine
Acres". Supposedly, you can see the two tornado victums wondering the camp grounds. And you can also see the scout
master hanging from the hard shelter at Pine acres every nite at the moment he hung himself.
My Findings: First of all, the tornado boys. I have SEEN them wonder the camp grounds. I was on patrol as my first nite
on camp staff. We alternate whos in charge, and that person has to make sure that all campers are at their sites, check up
with scout masters and relay the information. Being my first nite, I traveled with an expirienced staff member. I was coming
around the bend to boonsville plains, when i saw two kids, standing at the far end of the road, leading up to Hickory. I
yelled for them to stop, and the staff member with me informed me those are the tornado boys. The boys looked at me, and
began calmly walking up the hill, I ran after them and they just dissapeared from my sight. (NOTE: not as in I couldnt find
them, as in as I was chasing them, they just began to vanish into thin air, I had vidual contact with them the entire time
and there was no way they could escape my sight). The hanging man I have never seen...that makes that one easy, haha, but
that did happen.
FOLLOW UP: Like sampsons pebble, This would require some time. The camp grounds are fairly busy, however, I do like the grounds
at nite. I do plan to maybee go up near the end of the summer, try to stay the nite but wander around. See if I can see
them again.
East Side Fire Access Road:
Story: There is supposedly a whitch cult that practices their craft deep in the woods, and uses this road to get from
their homes (well, the main road) to their shrine or altar. You supposedly at night can see them walking on the road, comeplete
shrouded and they dissapear if you get near them.
My Findings: Well, there is a witch cult that practices out there. Me and a small group hiked the road and felt nothing
abnormal aside from it being late and we were tired. Near the half way marker, the group began to just call it quits. We
havent seen anything and feel nothing. We investigated the next day and did find a small shelter with a pentagram carved
in it and Runes carved in un-used tent platforms. We could not translate the runes, even with a Knowlegable person with us.
Some of the runes did make sense, and others we did not know what they were.
FOLLOW UP: Out of respect, I will not follow up on this. There is nothing to fear, and it is probably just some teenagers,
or adults, practicing their craft. The stories of seeing them vanaish I have determined as false, people made that up as
soon as they saw the altar, they knew that once the site was spotted, people might easily believe the rumors of the whitches
walking the grounds. Even if they did, they have every right top practice what they beilive. Haunting? Nope. Does the
cult practice up there, more than likely.
